During the noon School Board Recognition Reception, the Harris County Department of Education met at the Irvington Conference Center to celebrate and honor the contributions of trustees. The atmosphere was electric with laughter and smiles.
Trustees of school boards around the country are honored every January by various school systems for their service to students. "Leadership for Tomorrow's Texas" is the topic of this year's School Board Recognition Month. It emphasizes the commitment of trustees to provide students with opportunities and experiences that are important and will help them prepare for college and beyond.
In his introductory remarks, Superintendent James Colbert Jr. discussed the influence of our trustees.
According to Colbert, the judgments made by this board are largely responsible for what HCDE has now. They are the ones who put the kids in our care first and fight for their rights every day. We are incredibly appreciative of the exact 3,397.8 minutes that they have spent lobbying for HCDE, according to the statistics I pulled.
Attendees at the reception saw a video expressing the Department's appreciation for the board, and HCDE employees gave the trustees handwritten notes of thanks, personalized coolers, and certificates of appreciation. Also contributing their artistic talents were students from our Special Schools program, who made unique presents. Fortis Academy put its culinary talents on display with tasty snacks, Highpoint School made personalized office supplies, and Academic and Behavior Schools showcased artwork.
Lunch was served, and guests may relax with some small plates and drinks while mingling with HCDE trustees.
