Eric Dick and HCDE Celebrate Holidays with Academic and Behavior Schools
The Christmas spirit was in the air all December long, with Eric Dick and the other members of the Harris County Department of Education spreading the cheer. Kids engaged in their annual Winter Holiday Program with smiles, laughter, and tears of pleasure abound in the hallways of Academic and Behavior Schools East and West. The events culminated in holiday celebrations, including the reading of Chris Van Allsburg's iconic children's fantasy tale, The Polar Express, and the whole campus dressed in their preferred holiday pajamas.
ABS West staff members turned their cafeteria into the North Pole for a Christmas program, leaving Special Schools leadership glowing with joy on December 17. With their sing-along, elementary behavior students stole the show; middle school life skills courses rocked out with a dance battle that got teachers and classmates both on their feet. Inspired by the traditional tale, The Night Before Christmas, high school thespians-in-making finished the event with a skit.
With a Christmas concert on December 20, ABS East primary and middle school students delighted parents, district officials, and teachers down the 610 Loop. Every class HOLIDAY SPIRIT TAKES CENTER STAGE AT ACADEMIC AND BEHAVIOR SCHOOLS sang traditional holiday tunes, including "Jingle Bells," "Frosty the Snowman," and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." Inspired by Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis," the program concluded with a student-written comedy on the nasty and lovely list.
Be An Angel Christmas GiftÂ
Santa Claus also made a unique gift delivery to every university from the Be An Angel Christmas Gift campaign. Grant money from the Be An Angel charitable organization was used by teachers to buy presents for more than a hundred impoverished pupils. They selected reading materials, new shoes, toys, and sports gear. Staff selected sensory-friendly items for less mobile students.
These yearly holiday events and projects serve as a reminder that our Special Schools are arming their kids with useful social-emotional skills and public speaking strategies that will help them back in their hometowns. Plus, a few smiles and a performance will always help you to share some holiday magic!
