Baseball sized hail slams northeast Houston neighborhoods

If it's not floodwater, it's hail damage that Houstonians are now dealing with after severe thunderstorms pummel Southeast Texas this month. Along with several inches of flooding, the El Dorado area just northeast of the East Loop 610 and East Freeway was hit with baseball-sized hail that peppered plastic sheeting like giant buckshot. Several properties windows were shattered and even some ceilings reported to have caved in.

Texas has had 36 $100 million in disasters from severe thunderstorms in the past 25 years. Only five of these disasters were tornadoes. Twenty-nine were from something that oftentimes isn't taken as seriously: hail. Texas hailstorms have done more economic damage than the 500 most expensive Texas tornadoes. It's easy to forget how costly hail can be.
